On 21 March 2013 a team of intrepid explorers set off to conquer the last great polar challenge: to cross the Antarctic continent in winter. Conceived by Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 2005, this 6-month, 2000+ mile traverse will see a five man team experience near-24 hour darkness and temperatures plunging below -94°F (-70°C). As well as providing unique scientific research and a global education program, The Coldest Journey hopes to raise $10m for Seeing is Believing to help fight preventable blindness.

During the 6-month traverse, the team will record their epic journey using cameras and camcorders from Panasonic and GoPro. Much of the video content and photography will be captured on SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC Cards, with all content – an anticipated 47TB of data – being trusted to being stored and backed-up on SanDisk Extreme SSDs.
